Richmond Street
Manchester
5 Richmond Street is just off Canal Street, in the heart of the city of Manchester.
Discovering the building had been a factory for Nairn and Co, who went on to be Forbo Nairn. The world-famous linoleum manufacturers. R2A found original pattern books for Nairn's Linoleum. We took these patterns and abstracted them to create significant graphic interventions that run across floors and ceilings.
This bold, creative approach echoed the more 'creative' industries that we thought may be attracted to this building in this location.
Floor plates were opened up and original features revealed such as, exposed brickwork, beams, and cast-iron pillars.
As the saying goes, 'the greenest building is the one that already exists.*' So not just good for the client but good for the environment.
