Manifest
Watkinson Street, Liverpool
R2A transformed an historic warehouse in the Baltic Triangle to create Manifest, a contemporary British restaurant and wine bar.
We were challenged to transform the existing building – a 150-year old goods warehouse on Watkinson Street – from an empty brick shell to a restaurant. Using traditional industrial features, warm wood and stainless steel details, the team created a unique setting that provides natural intimacy and atmosphere, without feeling overly ‘designed’.
The brief draws from the street’s historical mercantile location in the Baltic Triangle. Watkinson Street was traditionally a road of trades, from lath rendering to whitesmithing and the design presents cooking as a contemporary trade, slotting seamlessly within its historical context. Its stainless steel open kitchen provides diners with a glimpse into one of the most intimate cooking experiences in the city. Chunky monolithic blocks provide spaces for curing and finishing.
The result exudes a relaxed atmosphere, coupled with an award winning food and drink offering from local and seasonal suppliers.
Manifest has been recognised by the Michelin Guide UK and is open for lunch and dinner service Wednesday through Saturday at 5 Watkinson Street, Liverpool, L1 0AG
